The end of summer and the beginning of Autumn. A beautiful time to come sailing. Or if you like a swim, at this time of year the water is at its warmest after months of summer sun. Although we have a general plan for our trips we always adapt them to suit the conditions at the time. On this trip we’ll set off with a blank canvas, free to explore the beautiful waters around the Argyll coast. Options could be up the Sound of Mull, maybe a call at Tobermory for a pint in the famous Mishnish Bar. We may venture all the way around Mull with a stop at Staffa for Fingalls Cave, There are amazing beaches on the south coast of Mull or we may stop and pick up some succulent and super fresh mussels in Loch Spelve. Or if the wind has a bit of North to offer how about heading down past the Corryvrecken whirlpool, a stop at Crinnan or a walk on the beautiful and almost completely empty Isle of Jura. The tiny Garvellach islands are home to some of the most ancient geology on the planet as well as an amazing and tiny monetary that was built more than a thousand years ago. Wherever we go we are sure to encounter fantastic wildlife and experience peace and solitude far away from the noise of life ashore. One of the best things about an autumn trip is the return of the stars. As the days get a little shorter the sky once again becomes dark enough to treat us to its astral magnitude. What could be better than a late night dram on deck with the milky-way, a painted stripe across the heavens. Summer is ending, the cold and dark will be returning in a little while so let’s go for it while we can.
