A sailing holiday in Scotland is a really special experience. The waters and islands off the west coast are as beautiful as they are remote and empty. It’s a real opportunity to get away from it all and embrace a slower way of life.
Even more it’s a chance to throw off the controlled relationship with the world that we modern humans like to have. Provident is a very traditional sailing boat. A twin masted gaff rigged ketch. Rigging details unchanged since the 19th century. (There is an engine but we prefer not to use it too much). We operate in the winds and currents that flow around us. With a bit of ingenuity we can pretty much always come up with a plan that will get us somewhere wonderful. But we wont necessarily know where that’s going to be until we get going or how long it will take to get there.
On the way, we’ll learn a bit about how to get the boat to go, we’ll stop and explore on shore and wonder at the amazing wildlife and natural beauty.
Occasionally we’ll get a little too cold, too hot, a bit wet. But we’ll be on a really comfortable, stable and utterly solid and very lovely old boat. She’ll keep us well and the combination of her tried and tested, centuries in the making strength with a bunch of modern tec will enable us to step back in time comfortably and safely.
