The trip…
Anna Crampin, open water coach and swimming teacher and Morag and Steve - owners of the beautiful classic ship Provident, have joined forces to offer a unique outdoor adventure where we explore the seas around the west coast of Scotland. Aiming to go everywhere under sail, we will seek out swimming adventures around our coasts. With Provident as the “mothership” we can anchor close to remote islands and pick you up as you swim through an interesting strait, around a skerry or maybe do a morning lap around the boat.
Provident is a comfortable, heavy boat There is a wide open deck with plenty of space to relax and although the crew might like it if you lend a hand pulling up a sail or two there is no pressure to do so. There is a glazed deckhouse, heating below decks and a warm shower. All meals are provided with lots of soups and hot chocolate to welcome you when you come back on board.
Anna Crampin -open water swim guide and coach.
Anna Crampin loves swimming and has been enjoying the open water for around 10 years. She swims locally in the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park and in the sea in Fife. In the summer she likes long distances and in the winter short dips. Last year she trained for a marathon swim and won her age group in the Loch Morlich Go Swim 10k event. She is also a regular pool swimmer, training with Stirling Swimming Club Masters.
Anna has also qualified as an open water coach with the Oceanman Open Water Swimming Diploma, a swimming teacher with the Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification, a pool coach with the American Swimming Coaching Association Level 1 and as a Beach lifeguard with a current Surf Life Saving GB beach lifeguard award.
She is particularly interested in water safety and in the summer of 2023 worked as a relief lifeguard with the RNLI, delivered a series of water safety presentations across schools in Fife and water safety courses on the beach to children. She also worked as Head Coach for over a year between 2021 and 2022 for a swimming academy in Abu Dhabi and taught private swimming lessons for 2 years in the Middle East.
For the last 20 years Anna has worked as a freelance outdoor trek and cycle leader and swimming guide on expeditions around the world. She has taken groups swimming to places including the Maldives, Indonesia, Oman and of course Scotland.
During our trip Anna hopes to bring this passion for swimming, knowledge of the sport and experience to your holiday. Her main role will be to provide safety cover during our swims whilst we explore the waters around where the wind takes Provident. Once on board she'll find out what you would like to get from your swimming time on Provident so that we can do our best to facilitate this. Some of you might just love to dip and to admire our surroundings in a leisurely way. Others could have a distance per day in mind and you may also like some personalised technique coaching along the way. There should be opportunities for all of this. Anna is excited to talk to you about it and she will have some ideas for you too.
